A little boy walks along a country road.
He sees some pretty yellow wild flowers.
He thinks aloud, Mama would love these.
He carefully picks the yellow blossoms.
With tender hands, he arranges a bouquet.

Mama hears her son coming down the road,
as he lightheartedly sings Jesus Loves Me,
in his little boy voice, like he always did.
She can barely make out a streak of yellow.
She wonders what mischief her son is up to.

The little boy marches up the porch steps,
wearing a sweet, bright smile from ear to ear.
In his little hands, the bouquet of flowers.
Mama stood mute, in awe of her precious son.
His smile grows wider as he hands her the flowers.

He said, "I picked these flowers just for you,
I knew you would love them. They are so bright,
like your smile. I knew you loved pretty flowers.
You always smile when Daddy brings you flowers."
Mama took the flowers as she wiped away a tear.

The boy looked at his Mama, "Why are you crying?
I thought the flowers would make you happy."
Mama said, "I'm crying cause you're such a good boy.
You have made me very happy today, my little one."
The boy felt so good inside as he hugged his Mama.

Each year on Mama's birthday, he'd give her flowers.
Each year Mama would hear these words spoken in love,
"I picked these flowers just for you, I knew you would
love them. They are so bright, like your smile. I knew
you loved pretty flowers. You always smile when Daddy brings
you flowers." She always rewarded him with a tearful hug.

As he got older he would buy them at the flower shop.
Through the years, he didn't say those words anymore,
but Mama always heard those words within her heart.
Each year the boy would hear loving words from Mama,
as she wiped away her tears, she would hug him close.

Then came the day when the grown man's Mama passed away.
All was quite as he stood crying over her casket,
whispering these words, "I picked these flowers just for
you, I knew you would love them. They are so bright,
like your smile. I knew you loved pretty flowers.
You always smiled when I brought you flowers."
